1. ClutchBio Membership

$1.50/month per plasmid | $0.25/month per oligo | Free, temporary storage for long linear DNA

ClutchBio provides secure, long-term storage for your plasmids and DNA oligos, ensuring seamless retrieval and hassle-free integration into future projects.

  • Plasmid Storage – Includes plasmid DNA storage and all restocking & resequencing costs for cloning services

  • Oligo Storage – Covers oligo storage required for plasmid builds and Sanger sequencing verification

  • Gene Fragments – Designed for short-term use. These are not stored in the biorepository and not charged to client

Adding Samples to Your Biorepository

Clients can mail existing plasmids, PCR templates, or other DNA samples to ClutchBio for integration into their biorepository. Additional charges may apply for sequence verification or initial stocking.

Optional Sample Discarding

Clients can remove samples from their biorepository at any time to eliminate recurring storage fees.

Plasmid Batch Price Breakdown

An order of plasmids is called a Plasmid Batch. All plasmids in a batch are required to be of the same type — Basic Parts, Intermediate Assemblies, or Final Assemblies.

Basic Parts / Intermediate Assemblies

By default, these plasmids are stored in your biorepository for use in future assemblies. You may optionally request your own pre-normalized aliquot when placing the order for $10/sample.

Final Assembly Plasmids

By default, 25 µL of plasmid DNA (miniprep scale) is shipped. Higher plasmid scales may be requested (see plasmid pricing diagram for midi- and maxiprep scale-up fees).

See below for how costs are determined as well as pricing examples for each type of batch.

Plasmid Pricing Economy

The “per batch cost” for a Plasmid Batch reflects the fact that it takes virtually the same amount of labor for Clutch Bio to construct one plasmid as it does for several plasmids. Thus, it is more economical for the client to order multiple plasmids. This is illustrated in the figure below, which shows how the cost per plasmid decreases as the number of plasmids in a batch increases.

Cost Per Plasmid for Assemblies

Plasmid Reorders

Existing plasmids in a client’s biorepository can be reordered from the biorepository, i.e. do not have to be reconstructed. Plasmids reorders are not subject to the Plasmid Batch base cost ($380 fee waived). The cost of a plasmid reorder is dependent on the scale of preparation and the presence of homopolymer regions that require additional screening/sequencing for verification:
